Dale Kretz, who earned his PhD in History in 2016, received the Civil War and Reconstruction Book Prize for 2023 (formerly the Avery O. Craven Prize) at the Organization of American Historians Annual Meeting in Los Angeles this past weekend.   Dale's book, Administering Freedom:  The State of Emancipation after the Freedmen's Bureau, was published by University of North Carolina Press in 2022.

This is a big honor for Dale, as well as for Prof. Iver Bernstein, Dale's PhD adviser.
