Global Early Modern
This concentration centers on the complex processes of cultural and economic exchange within and between different regions of the world from the 15th to the 18th centuries, a period marked by scientific and technological discovery, colonization and imperialism, voluntary and involuntary migration, artistic and intellectual innovation, and the emergence of nation-states and multicultural empires. Thematic areas of emphasis include state and society; the history of medicine; travel and migration; trade and commerce; material culture; women and gender; and racial and ethnic identity.
