    Steve Hause is a historian of modern France.

    Professor Hause is a graduate of Northwestern University and earned his doctorate at WashU. He is professor emeritus at both the University of Missouri – St. Louis (where he began his career in 1969) and at Washington University in St. Louis (where he last taught in 2015); he is also a University of Missouri system’s Thomas Jefferson Fellow, in recognition of being a former holder of the state’s Thomas Jefferson Professorship. He is the author or editor of nine books, including four books on women’s history in the Third Republic.  He is a past president of both the Society for French Historical Studies (2008-2009) and the Western Society for French History (1987-1988).

    Professor Hause continues to live in St Louis.
