David T Konig Lecture: "What Would the Constitution's Framers Think About Today's Supreme Court?"

Join us as Stuart Banner, Norman Abrams Distinguished Professor of Law at UCLA, presents a lecture as part of the Konig Lecture Series. 

Professor Stuart Banner is the Norman Abrams Distinguished Professor of Law at UCLA. His most recent books include The Most Powerful Court in the World: A History of the Supreme Court of the United States (Oxford University Press, 2024) and The Decline of Natural Law: How American Lawyers Once Used Natural Law and Why They Stopped (Oxford University Press, 2021). As the director of UCLA’s Supreme Court Clinic, he has represented parties in several U.S. Supreme Court cases, including most recently Villarreal v. Texas, which he argued in October 2025. Professor Banner began his teaching career at Washington University in St. Louis, where he taught from 1993 to 2001.

The David T. Konig Lecture Series at WashU's History Department, named in honor of the distinguished historian and law scholar David Konig, brings prominent experts in American legal and early American history to campus for annual public lectures. Co-sponsored by the Law School, Political Science department, and other campus units depending on the topic, this series fosters interdisciplinary engagement. Students may be selected to win a yearly award, the Konig Prize in Law & History.
