Former grad student publishes first book on emancipation

Dale Kretz has just published his monograph "Administering Freedom: The State of Emancipation after the Freedmen's Bureau", released this week by University of North Carolina Press.

One of his reviewers writes in a blurb, "A remarkable achievement and invaluable contribution to the study of emancipation, Reconstruction, and citizenship."

Dale was a 2016 Ph.D. from the History Department and was a tenure-track Assistant Professor of History at Texas Tech for five years before following his heart to California where he is Labor Representative for the California Nurses Association, responsible for UCLA Santa Monica, which employs 4,500 nurses, as well as serving on the CNA's UC Division collective bargaining team.
