Associate Professor of history Uluğ Kuzuoğlu’s book received an honorable mention for the 2026 Joseph Levenson Prize in the China post-1900 category. The book explores Chinese script reforms from the 1890s to the 1980s, analyzing them as tools for information management in a global context.

The Levenson Prize is awarded each year by the Association for Asian Studies, a nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of the field of Asian studies through international exchange, networking, publications, research support, and career development.

“I am honored to see my book listed among a long lineage of excellent works that have defined the field of Chinese history,” Kuzuoğlu said.

The prize will be formally awarded in March at the AAS 2026 Annual Conference in Vancouver.
