I am a Ph.D. candidate in the department of history, focusing on early modern China. My research interests include the history of medicine, military history, and imperial history.
My dissertation, tentatively entitled “Medicine on the March: Military Organizations, Medical Networks, and Empire Building, 1644-1800,” explores military medicine in Qing garrisons. It asks how the Qing raised and kept the virility of one of the largest armies in the eighteenth century, and tells a broader history of medicine and medical encounters within the context of imperialism, transregional connectivity, and multi-ethnic governance.
